Prevention From Phishing Attack

Prevention From Phishing Attack:

Phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

Communications purporting to be from popular social web sites, auction sites, online payment processors or IT administrators are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public. Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail or instant messaging, and it often directs users to enter details at a fake website whose look and feel are almost identical to the legitimate one.

Steps to prevent phishing attack:
  1. If you receive an email from your bank informing you that it suspects an unauthorized transaction on your account and adnvises you to click on the link to verify your identity, then do not click on the link as it may contains viruses and spyware
  2. Despite of your precautions if you have been phished and you given your personal information to someone who is masquerading as your ISP,bank, online payment service , or even a government agency
    • Keep reviewing your copy of your credit report periodically to look for any new account activity
    • Contact immediately to concerned organization and file a report of cyber crime immediately to police
  3. If you receive an e-mail from your organization asking you to confirm your password and share your personal information by entering into secure website don,t do that because it can be a type of phishing attack ..where attacker wants your personal information by making itself as a trusted person of organization.
