There’s a SteelBook, too
We’re at the point where we have a decent idea of what Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding is entails. Coming this November on PS4 (but on other possible platforms later), it deals with an isolated and terrifying world, with an action-oriented tint. Various film and television icons like Guillermo del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen, Nicholas Winding Refn, and Norman Reedus portray the photo-realistic cast. “Kojima” is enough to sell some people on this whole concept, but the more we know, the more mesmerizing it sounds.
We also got some more practical info thanks to a Death Stranding panel at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, where Kojima revealed the box art for the game (and stated that Refn would “guest star” as the character Heartman – nice to see he hasn’t abandoned the “man” naming scheme), which, surprise, showcases main protagonist Sam Bridges, played by Reedus.
Although he could have gone the extremely Kojima route with an esoteric symbol or something on the cover, he ended up standing by his man in the end: which is probably going to be a decent way to sell copies to unsuspecting Walking Dead fans who see it on the shelf. While the main cover has Bridges in a full suit, a SteelBook edition was also shown, which has him covered in mud, sans helmet. As a reminder, the SteelBook version is $70.
