Alexa announcements and YouTube native app rolling out to all Fire TV devices

Announcements made their debut on Amazon’s Alexa devices a few months ago, but starting today, the feature is expanded to all Fire TV devices in countries where the functionality is available The Verge reports.

Amazon announcements are one-way voice messages that you will now be able to send to Fire TV devices. For example, you can inform your friends and family the dinner is ready or that it’s time for school. These announcements can be sent with an Echo device or with the Alexa app on Android or iOS.

However, you will not be able to respond to an Alexa announcement like you would when using Google Broadcasts. When an announcement is played on an Echo speaker or another Alexa-compatible device, a notification will pop-up on your Fire TV’s screen. Whatever content you’re watching or listening will pause to play the message, but then it will resume automatically.

Along with the Alexa announcements, Amazon announced that the native YouTube app will be rolled out to all Fire TV devices. Starting today, the app will be released on the original Fire TV Stick, Fire TV, and 2nd and 3rd generation Fire TV devices.
