There’s no denying Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy Note 10 looks absolutely stunning. But internally, the problems have been mounting and the latest news is going to cause outright anger among hardcore Note fans.
Taking to Twitter, popular XDA Developers writer Max Weinbach has revealed in a pair of tweets that Samsung has decided to remove the microSD slot from the Note 10. Furthermore, if you want this core Note feature you’re going to have to pay a lot more for the new Galaxy Note 10 Pro edition instead.
How important is microSD to the Galaxy range? When Samsung last tried removing it from the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5, it provoked such anger it was brought back the next year. And adding fuel to this fire, the Galaxy S10 has microSD but it is the Galaxy Note range which is considered the Do-It-All smartphone build for productivity-minded people.
In short: the Galaxy Note is not the model you drop microSD from first.
There is a twist, however. While most of Weinbach’s info ties in what we know – especially the eye-catching leaked renders and upgraded cameras – he offers one major olive branch to disgruntled Note fans: a headphone jack is on both Note 10 models.
But there is a caveat to this. Weinbach does not claim the jack will be restored on the commercial versions of both phones, only that the pre-production units his source saw had kept it. Further undermining the jack’s chances of making it to retail is information from Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks), easily the most accurate leaker working today.
Speaking to me, Hemmerstoffer said he didn’t know if the microSD slot would remain on the Note 10 but he was “confident” the headphone jack has not made the final cut. As such, the big concern here is Samsung has decided to pile on the pain for Note fans by cutting both the microSD slot and headphone jack in a single generation and rubbed salt into those wounds by retaining these features on the Galaxy S10.
