SEGA announces Yakuza 7: Whereabouts of Light and Darkness.

SEGA has announced Yakuza 7: Like A Dragon (subtitled Whereabouts of Light and Darkness in Japan) staring the new protagonist Kazuga Ichiban. The story takes place in Yokohama, so don’t expect to see much of Kamurocho (which Yokohama is around 3 times the size of this city) while passing through. Ichiban absolutely loves Dragon Quest, just a little random fun fact.

Yakuza 7 features an entirely new combat system, similar to say Persona. It is a command based input. Director Toshihiro Nagoshi did say that if the game’s new mechanics aren’t welcomed by fans, they’ll revert to the old action style.

It’s technically the 13th entry in the series, but only the 8th mainline title as Yakuza Ishin (which might come to North America), Yakuza Kenzan (which also might come to North America), Yakuza: Dead Souls, and Yakuza: Black Panther alongside its sequel are all spinoffs.

The Yakuza series has recently been being pushed, with the Yakuza Origins Collection and the Yakuza Remastered Collection both released just last week on PS4.

The game is coming to PS4 and will launch on January 16th, 2020 in Japan, China, and South Korea, later in 2020 in North America and Europe. No further platforms have been confirmed. Yakuza 7 can be played at TGS 2019 on September 12th-September 15th.
