Are you feeling it now, Mr. Krabs? By Colin Stevens SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, a “faithfully remade” version of the 2003 cult classic, has officially been announced for modern systems. Revealed by the official THQ Nordic Twitter account, Rehydrated is being developed by Purple Lamp Studios and is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
The post also confirmed that it is, unfortunately, not coming to E3 2019. The official trailer’s description confirmed a new multiplayer mode, reading “Are you ready, kids? The cult classic is back, faithfully remade in spongetastic splendor! Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy and show the evil Plankton that crime pays even less than Mr. Krabs. Want to save Bikini Bottom from lots of rampant robots? Of course you do! Want to underpants bungee jump? Why wouldn’t you! Want to join forces in a brand new multiplayer mode? The battle is on!” The “faithfully remade” bit suggests the game is a full remake rather than a simple remaster. This is the first of three games THQ Nordic has teased an announcement for over the next three days: the next two will come on June 6 and 7. These three games constitute just a few of the 80 games it has in development, which also includes Dead Island 2. Battle for Bikini Bottom has become known as a popular speedrunning game.
According to Speedrun.com, the current any-percent completion time record for Battle of Bikini Bottom sits at 51 minutes and 54 seconds and was obtained one month ago by SHiFT. In our original Battle for Bikini Bottom review, we called the game “Good” saying “The love for the SpongeBob franchise really shines through in Battle for Bikini Bottom.” Nickelodeon recently announced a SpongeBob prequel series starring a 10-year-old SpongeBob, or SpongeBobby, if you will. This is part of SpongeBob’s “Best Year Ever,” which includes this spinoff, a new TV special and more. Have a tip for us? Want to discuss a possible story? Please send an email to newstips@ign.com.
